This is the kind of news that makes me stop and think about how fast the lines between crypto and traditional finance are blurring. SpaceX shares will begin trading on Solana the same day the company is expected to list on Nasdaq, through a tokenized stock called SPCX, launched by tokenization infrastructure provider Sunrise and regulated brokerage Backpack Securities.
That's not a delayed rollout or a test run. It's day one, on‑chain, live alongside the traditional listing.
What Exactly Is SPCX?
The SPCX token, issued by Backpack, represents direct ownership of underlying SpaceX shares and can be redeemed for those actual shares through Backpack's brokerage platform. This isn't synthetic exposure or a derivative bet on SpaceX's price. It's a real redemption path tied to the actual security.
What makes it more interesting is the two‑way bridge. Eligible shares can also be converted back into tokens, creating a direct connection between traditional brokerage accounts and blockchain‑based markets. You can move in and out of the chain as needed.
Trading Around the Clock on Solana
One of the practical advantages here is how SPCX will trade. The token will trade on Solana around the clock, including outside traditional market hours, and can be held in self‑custody wallets and traded across supported Solana‑based venues.
That's a meaningful difference from buying SpaceX on Nasdaq. Markets close. Solana doesn't.
For investors who want exposure to SpaceX but prefer to stay within the crypto ecosystem, or simply want the flexibility of 24/7 trading and self‑custody, this opens a door that hasn't existed before for a stock of this profile.
The Bigger Picture: Stocks Going On‑Chain
I've been watching the tokenized real‑world assets space closely, and this launch feels like a proper statement of intent. The announcement comes as interest in tokenized real‑world assets continues to grow across the crypto industry. Stablecoins became one of blockchain's most successful use cases, and several firms are now betting that equities could follow a similar path if tokenized shares can be made accessible to a global investor base.
The argument being made here is that if stablecoins can scale to trillions in volume, tokenized equities could follow, especially for globally distributed investors who otherwise face barriers accessing U.S. stocks.
Backpack CEO Sets the Vision
Backpack CEO Armani Ferrante put it plainly in a statement. He said the future of tokenized equities is not just putting price exposure on‑chain, it's making underlying securities portable across financial systems.
That framing matters. This isn't about creating a parallel speculative market. The pitch is genuine portability between Wall Street and the blockchain.
Whether retail demand materializes at scale remains to be seen. SpaceX is one of the most anticipated IPOs in years, and launching SPCX simultaneously is a bold test of that thesis. If it works, expect a flood of tokenized equities to follow on Solana and beyond.
I'll be watching day‑one trading volume very closely.
